What do the Roman Empire, Erin Brockovich and Snow White have in Common?*

TOXICOLOGY!

What is Toxicology? What does it mean to you?

Invite a Tox Ambassodor to your classroom or community activity to learn the answers to these questions. Tox Ambassadors are usually toxicology, environmental health or public health researchers and grad students. They are looking forward to visiting your class room with her/his box or tricks -- Tox-in-a-Box!

The visit provides young people with an introduction to the field of toxicology and environmental health with some hands-on activities, slides, demonstrations and discussion. It is appropriate for all students, K - 12.

All materials in the Tox-in-a-Box kit are organized around five core principles of toxicology:

Living in a Chemical World - Routes of Exposure
Dose Makes the Poison
Toxicology - An Application of Basic Science
Risks vs. Benefits - Assessing you Options
Tox Tales - A Real Life Component

Tox-in-a-Box will fit well with many modules such as environment, health, biology, chemistry, social studies, risk, safety, reading, debate, or anytime you would like an ambassador!

*The fall of the Roman Empire has been attributed to lead contamination
  in Roman pottery.

Erin Brochovich discovered a cover-up involving chromium contaminated water,
which was causing illnesses in the community.

Snow White fell into a deep sleep after eating a poisoned apple.
